Individual Letters and Numbers

Sometimes you do not need a complete sign — you need individual cut characters that you can arrange yourself. Address numbers spaced across a wall. A child name spelled out above a crib. Classroom letters for a teacher. Numbers for a milestone birthday party. Our individual letter and number service cuts each character separately on calibrated CO2 laser, sands the edges, and ships them as a set in protective packaging. Size Guide for Individual Characters

Letter and number sizing is measured by the height of a capital letter. 4-6 inches works for desks, mantle vignettes, milestone party decor (kids birthdays "5", anniversaries "25"), and small DIY projects. 8-12 inches is the sweet spot for nursery name walls, classroom alphabet sets, and milestone display. 14-18 inches works for address numbers (most front-of-house addresses use 14" numbers for visibility from the street), large nursery names, and feature wall installations. 20-24 inches is feature territory — single oversized letter as a wall accent, large house numbers, statement pieces.

Font Options

We carry the same three font families as our complete signs. Modern script — flowing handwritten styles, work for decorative use but be careful with individual letters: scripts are designed to connect, so isolated cursive letters can read awkwardly. We recommend script fonts only for full-name layouts where letters connect, not individual character sets. Block sans-serif — bold, readable, the right choice for address numbers and kids rooms. Strong silhouettes when laser-cut. Classic serif — refined, traditional, works well for libraries, formal entryways, and adult bedrooms. We can also import a custom font for branded sign systems — upload the font file with your order.

Address Numbers and House Plaques

Custom house number orders are one of the more popular use cases for our letter/number service. Most US addresses fit comfortably within a 4-character set (123, 456A, etc.) at 12-14 inch character height. We recommend 12mm Baltic birch for outdoor address numbers — even with a hardwax finish, exterior wood signs degrade faster than indoor pieces, so the extra thickness extends usable life. For a fully outdoor application we offer aluminum-laminated birch (birch face on aluminum substrate) which holds up dramatically better than raw plywood under sun and rain. Nursery and Kids Room Sets

Spelling out a name above a crib or arranging an alphabet set in a classroom is the second-most-popular use case. The standard nursery layout: child name in 8-12 inch letters, mounted with adhesive strips on a long horizontal wall above the crib or changing table. We will preview the full word at your selected size during checkout so you can confirm it fits. For complete arranged signs (single piece, all letters connected) order from custom name signs instead — usually cheaper than individual letters because the cut path is shorter when letters are connected.

Bulk and DIY Projects

For DIY enthusiasts, classrooms, and Etsy sellers ordering bulk letters: we offer volume pricing for orders of 25+ characters. Per-piece price drops 30-40% at this volume. Common bulk orders: full alphabet sets for classrooms, multiple monogram letters for craft fairs, Greek letter sets for sororities, kids name sets for preschools. Email us with the quantity and we will quote individually. Standard turnaround for bulk orders is 7-10 business days from approval.

Mounting Hardware

Each individual letter ships with adhesive strips appropriate to its size — small letters get a single command strip, larger letters get two or four. For permanent installation we recommend French cleat mounting for letters over 12 inches (we sell French cleat strip add-ons for $4 per letter). Address numbers ship with stud-anchor screws and a paper alignment template. For free-standing display (mantle, shelf, party table) optional tabletop bases are available for $5 per letter — small wood foot that lets the character stand upright.
